MATLOCK ARTISTS SOCIETY - PROGRAMME 2025/2026

 

September 20th

Emma Hoten: Painting with oils and cold wax

Demonstration & Workshop

Emma’s contemporary oil paintings are a fusion of atmosphere, experiment and

memory. Using the landscape around her, she draws upon memories of a time and

an emotion. Colours, Contrast, Composition and Creating Movement and texture

are important features of her work.

 

Matlock Artists Society AGM: this follows at approximately 3.15pm. Tea/coffee and

cake will be served.

 

October 18th

Lea Nixon: Watercolour Landscapes & Cityscapes

Demonstration & Workshop

A landscape and Cityscape water colour artist, Lea has exhibited at the RI and

NEAC. He has always been interested in the darkness of mood in the mills and

factories of industrial England but loves the contrast with the breathtaking views of the lakes and mountains of the spectacular English countryside. He is interested in the shapes and shadows of a landscape and uses various water colour techniques as a way to portray this.

 

November 15th

Greta Vilidaite: Still Life in water soluble oils

Demonstration & Workshop

Greta is a multi-award winning Lithuanian-British oil painter and tutor. She paints

light filled landscape, floral and animal paintings that tug at the heartstrings, from her studio in Sheffield and en plain airing the Peak District. She is a regular contributor to The Artist magazine.

 

December 7th

Annual Prize-giving & Social

Afternoon Presentation of Awards by our President, Carol Hill

followed by a ‘Bring & Share’ tea & social.

 

January 17th

Carol Hill: Watercolour Landscapes

Morning demonstration & afternoon workshop kindly given by our President.

A very experienced watercolour painter, member of the SWA and RBSA, Carol will

show us how she paints in this medium.

 

February 21st

Chris Tkacz: Mixed Media

All day Workshop - Members Only

During this workshop, Chris will help us to understand the principles of Abstract Art and work towards abstraction in our paintings.

 

March 21st

Karen Johnson: Alcohol inks

All day Workshop - Members Only

Karen creates vibrant, floral artwork for her small business, ‘Millie Moth’. Inspired by her own garden, she uses alcohol inks to capture the colour, movement and essence of flowers and plant life. Karen will share her techniques, so you can use this medium in your own work and style.

 

April 18th

Caroline Lowe: Acrylics & Collage

Demonstration & Workshop

Caroline is a contemporary abstract painter; her love of nature and the countryside, inspires her intuitive landscapes. She will explain how her paintings evolve and demonstrate techniques she uses.

 

May 16th

Mark Buck: Watercolour Marine painting

Demonstration & Workshop

A member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, Mark is primarily a plein air artist. Water, reflections and light are his favourite subjects; he paints these in an energetic style using the natural translucency of pure water colour.

 

June 20th

Alison Vasey: Stormy Skies in Oil & other techniques

Demonstration & Workshop

Alison is a landscape painter, inspired by the Peak District and other wild spaces.

She will show us how she paints beautiful atmospheric landscapes in oils and help

us consider important elements in our own paintings.

 

July 18th

Roger Jenkins: Pen & Wash Landscapes

Demonstration & Workshop

A regular prize winner and contributor to the SAA, Roger’s approach to painting is generally impressionistic, bordering on the whimsical; he sees things in terms of a variety of colour, tone, and shapes, needing to retain both light and interest within his finished works.

Monthly Demonstrations/Workshops - 3rd Saturday of each month

Demonstration - 10am to 12.30pm, with 20 minute tea/coffee break

Workshop - 1pm to 3pm

Members - Demonstration only - £6

Members-  Demonstration & Workshop - £8

Workshop places are limited and only guaranteed if booked and paid for in

advance.

Morning demonstrations, but not workshops, are available to non-members for a fee of £10

4th Friday of the month - warm-up sketches and two longer poses

Plein Air Group - Runs in the summer months and is weather dependant.
